We believe that bringing people together in a beautiful space to share even the simplest of meals is one of life’s true pleasures. Food is the centre of celebrations across cultures and here are our suggestions for a space to share meals with the people you love, or the person you are wooing:
Lighting:
Eating doesn’t just serve a biological function- often the act of eating is shared with relaxation, playing, unwinding, connecting and maybe even a smidge of working. Lighting choices are incredibly important- stylistically (and you’ll note from the Ideabook that we gravitate to light fittings with a sculptural element), functionally and of course emotionally. Lighting should be mood enhancing, evocative and gentle.
Comfortable seating:
From high chairs with form and function for the littlest members of your brood, to seats where you can comfortably linger over the longest of lunches.
A goldilocks table:
A table that’s not too big, not too small, but that is just right for your space. If you have the space, go as big as your space will accommodate, but a table that’s easily extended is a must for when the hordes descend. It needs to be hard wearing and easy care, a blank canvas for both meals and for the activities of our lives- homework, arts and crafts, studying the form guide or rowdy card games and cocktails with the girls. Glass lets in light and blends into a tight space, whilst timber offers ambience and warmth.
Styling and artwork:
All of the spaces in Let’s Eat feature artwork and pieces the My Beautiful Abode team would happily collect for our own spaces. None are overdone, with practical storage that’s organised, and stylish.
