At this time of year, we’re all spending more time indoors — lingering over cups of tea, reading under throws, and contemplating whether a 7:30pm bedtime is entirely unreasonable. While winter invites us to slow down, it also makes us notice the little things about our home — what feels cosy, what feels tired, and what might need a tiny nudge to feel more us again.

The good news? You don’t need to renovate to breathe new life into your space. A mid-winter refresh can be just the thing to lift your spirits — think of it like swapping earrings or changing shoes. A few small styling changes can shift the whole mood of a room.

At My Beautiful Abode, we love returning to clients’ homes — sometimes to see a space exactly as we left it (a quiet thrill), and sometimes to see it gently evolved with new pieces, colours or styling choices. Nothing makes us happier than seeing a client truly own their space, adapting it as their life and tastes change.

When we revisit a space in winter, we’re not suggesting a big change. It’s more like adding a layer — fresh cushions, a softer throw, different artwork or ceramics. These pieces work a bit like accessories: small shifts with big impact.

Make space to rotate

We often recommend creating a little tucked-away spot in your home for the extras — vases, candleholders, decorative trays or collected treasures. That way, not everything needs to live on display all the time. You can rotate your favourites through the seasons, or just when the mood strikes.

In fact, one of our favourite activities during an in-home styling session is raiding your cupboards for hidden gems. That beautiful vase you forgot you had? We’ll find a new home for it. The platter you save for ‘special’? Let’s make it everyday special.

A little help goes a long way

If your space is feeling a little flat or you’re just craving something different, our 90-minute in-home workshop could be just the thing. We’ll help you edit, style and tweak — using what you already have, with the option to add a few curated pieces to elevate the look.

Because sometimes, all it takes is a second set of eyes, a cushion swap… and maybe one well-placed vase.
